Abandoned

Words sat forlorn,

all alone

in a cold corner

tightening the shawl

of remorse around

staring blankly

at the flickering lamp

shrinking further and further

into themselves

shivering in the cold blast

of hopelessness

for their partner in crime

the one who had

brought them to limelight

had abandoned them

as they could no longer

entice new readers

so now

shrouded in obscurity

they are just

a puddle of ink staining the floor.

  1. Such a wonderful personification of lonely words and a truth for many pieces of writing that get overlooked. Love the clever use of prompts, too. I could write a book on this piece 🙂

  2. No one puts Punam’s words in a corner! (This is from the movie “Dirty Dancing” – I might be dating myself with that reference.) All words deserve their time to shine…makes me want to see what words need dusting off…
