Hush! I tell my weary heart not to cry
as mayhem is unleashed in a flurry
I sip life slowly; the world jostles by
the time has come for us all to worry
as mayhem is unleashed in a flurry
wonder if people ponder their time here
the time has come for us all to worry
I frown, as I try to blink back a tear
wonder if people ponder their time here
a frenzied rush leading no where
I frown, as I try to blink back a tear
as I hear of killings here and there
a frenzied rush leading no where
I sip life slowly, the world jostles by
as I hear of killings here and there
hush! I tell my weary heart not to cry
Written in response to POW Kerfe’s prompt for W3 challenge run by David. Her prompt guidelines are:
- 16 lines or less;
- the first and last lines must be the same.
Also sharing at dVerse OLN.
You express the way I think many people are feeling right now. I think the time has come for us to worry. The repetition works so well here.

“I sip life slowly” – this feels exquisite words to be with – ” as the world jostles by” The heart does feel weary right now my friend Punam. I am with you in the wonder if people are pondering or squandering their time here. Including myself – am I using or squandering the gift of my time here. Your poem speaks very clearly to our present times and inner experiences.

I think we should all pause and reflect every once in a while. The negativity, the hurly-burly and the rage…together or separately are destroying our humanness.
Thanks a lot, Pragalbha.

One does need to pause when life is all about action without justification. Thanks, Ain.

Sad to read the news about killings and war. Sip life slowly if life is just so fast and blurry.

Indeed, Grace…always better to slow down.

You capture the feeling of the world right now. A oantoum is the perfect form for it. (K)
