Lies

When you ask about my wellbeing

do you notice me swallowing with difficulty

that lump of truth stuck at the back of my throat

I wonder should I summon that bravado,

which had deserted me long ago,

to assure how fortuitous I am

living a dream beyond my dreams

‘cos it would break your heart

if I tell you there are shadows on the moon

grotesque, frightening ones

creating vicious and viscous tar like darkness

stretching my soul so tight and taut

that if even one tear dropped from your eyes

it would shatter me forever.
