Purpose

Pain travels strangely in a non- linear way

its trajectory unpredictable

when my syncopated heart broke

it kept on beating steadily

it was the gut that sucked the air out of my lungs

your pain travels across the oceans

and wraps itself tightly across my chest

I feel a dull ache in my heart

words end up hurting the most

spoken words; like the man in the well of death,

vroom round and round in my head

till I scream in anguish

written words haunt my dreams in monochrome

blurring my eyes with sleeplessness

I did try to befriend pain but gave up

fighting it gives a purpose to my life.

  1. Oh Punam. This is so so beautiful. And heartbreaking. I can imagine you would never stop fighting pain…

    I LOVE these lines:
    when my syncopated heart broke

    it kept on beating steadily

it was the gut that sucked the air out of my lungs

your pain travels across the oceans

and wraps itself tightly across my chest

    Wow.

    1. Aww! Thank you so much Rachel. You try to put away the pain and get on with life but sometimes a word or a small incident can bring back all the pain. So one fights pain all over…again.
Thank you so much once again. Your wow says it all. ❤️❤️

  2. A wonderful treatment of a topic that is so personal, I guess the beauty of a poem lies in its novelty, but one that is followed by a familiarity, of discovering something that you always believed in and now you acknowledge it.

  3. When someone write about Love ,many can relate but when they write about Pain everyone can relate to it.Same goes for your poem. Its as profound as the feeling of pain and like always you have expressed it the best❤️
