The moon and I (a quadrille)

In the night’s velvety inkiness
the moon and my fealty undying
I confess I’d like to go quietly
with just her and night as witnesses
no rituals, no mourning, no blaze of fire
to eat up my flesh
and sear my soul

she smiles.

Written for Sadje’s wdys and dVerse quadrille Monday. Our host for today, Mish, has asked us to write a poem of exactly 44 words including the word “blaze“.

  1. I’ve ordered death at home alone, then cremation … beggar is nobody will give me a guarantee!

So glad you’ve got people talking/thinking about our inevitable demise so eloquently 🙂

  2. Seed of 1953

    The Autumn Blaze maple
Saunters into our back yard movie set for Gentlemen Prefer Blonds
    And announces quite loudly
    She will be first
    To capture eyes
    And appreciation
    Of aficionados
    Of straight limbs
    She will be first
    To attract the cardinal’s whistle
    Of admiration

  3. “She smiles”, i.e. she’ll be your witness. Did you want this to be dark? I think it is a little. That’s okay, I write them sometimes myself. Never want them to be true, the true feelings of me.
