Some respite

The oppressive calm of heat-dazed darkness is finally over, for now. The dry leaves rustle and crackle under the cover of cumulus clouds. The low rumble of thunder sounds ominously close. A startled sandpiper goes pi-wi-we and the solitary owl responds with tu-whit tu-who, momentarily shattering the stillness of night. With a contented sigh I crash on my bed.

Written for David’s W3 where POW, Jude, has asked us to “write a haibun poem under the theme of “the beauty of night”, and include not one but THREE onomatopoeia words in either your prose or haikus. I encourage you to explore the beauty of night from your own personal experiences”.
