I open my trusty, rusty relic of a trunk
up float a number of hoary tales, told and some untold
shards of shattered dreams leave my fingers lacerated
inspiration slumbers in the corner of the chest
refusing to play cloak and dagger
with an ageing marooned pirate and an aground lateen
unable to twist an engaging yarn from these tangled strands
fleet footed words escape leaving me fumbling
finally I scatter alphabets in the air
to fall in pretty words on the pristine square of paper
but they remain suspended; frozen in time
waiting for the warmth of new ideas to thaw
and form a tale never before told.

feels like a lament on writers block, and a very creative one (been there) enjoyed this very much

You are right…a lament for writer’s block as well as there are times when one feels what one is writing has already been said by many others and in much better ways. The quest for something unique continues. I am so glad you enjoyed it.

Beautifully written, Punam. I love your use of language, creating images which every writer will recognise. Just as Phillip says, it particularly echoes the pain of writer’s block. ✍

You are certainly visiting a place I feel at home in here–that wait, for a flush of energy, a clear voice–can be exhausting sometimes. It’s difficult, but you can be content perhaps that you have nonetheless made something out of the frustration and uncertainty to keep a spark alive. I enjoyed the sea-shanty feel of this.

It sure can be exhausting but one keeps trying. I am glad it gave you the feel of sea-shanty. 😊

I think it’s about being receptive to however the alphabet falls and trusting it will be in just the right sequence. This is a great poem for any creative soul who longs for that divine inspiration! 💗
