Blessings

The benevolence and magic of October
extended its warmth and vibrancy twice over
to the humid and humdrum August

showering it with boundless blessings
most precious and priceless
drenching it with sheer abundance

August, swinging between sweating and downpours,
is the month of plenitude for me;
rains or no rains.

Written for dVerse poetics. Today’s host Sanaa, says: For today’s Poetics, I want you all to write a poem about August. Feel it in your bones. Come tell us what the month means to you.

(August is special for me as both my kids were born on the same day four years apart.)

  1. You paint a lovely picture of this month, much milder and more full of welcome memories than mine has been, and I am glad that is the case as it produced this poem of comfort and joy.

  2. Punam this poem tastes of summer and happiness. Sparky’s family has a knack for doubling birthdays. It does make celebrations interesting! (and a happy birthday to your kiddos!)

  3. Excellent Punam, really enjoyed that! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ My sister’s birthday and my mum’s (God rest her soul) are both in August and mine just a day before August.

  4. A wonderful poem Punam. You’ve captured why August is a month of plenitude for you despite it seeming mundane for others. A lovely tribute to your children too, I must add, captured in the spirit of the poem.

  5. This is absolutely stellar writing here, Punam! 😍 I especially love and resonate with; “August, swinging between sweating and downpours, is the month of plenitude for me; rains or no rains.” Thank you so much for adding your voice to the prompt. And welcome aboard ❀❀

  6. “boundless blessings / most precious and priceless” How special, for your children to share that day.
I would joke with my mother by saying that I was the best birthday present she could have by sparing her from being in labor on her birthday. (I was born the day before.)

  7. The last stanza is beautiful with the month of plenitude. Boundless blessings indeed.

And I can relate with your month of August, swinging between sweating and downpours.

    1. Actually August is a rich month in India… Independence day, many festivals, and if the monsoon is kind, abundant rains! I have a personal reason to celebrate the month. πŸ™‚
