Wave (NaPoWriMo)

A wave is an emotion in motion
undulating moodily like a mood swing
responding with commotion
to moon’s manipulation of strings
rising and falling then rising again
billowing and surging, sometimes shimmying
moving unfettered, without restrain
basking in love; happily shimmering.

Today’s prompt is to write a concrete poem.

I could have written the whole poem in the shape of wave but it would have been difficult to read. I also did try it in Word. You can see the screenshot of the dismal result below.

  1. Personally, I think visuals are best left to visual artists, opera to trained singers and poets should be content to create with words. But what do I know? I enjoyed your poem, being able to read it in straight lines and imagining the wave (’emotion in motion’). I can, honest. 🙂

  2. Beautiful poem, handwriting and drawing.Your wavy poetry has drawn a bald man’s head. Art can be anything. Art does not always have to be pleasant. It should show some message. That’s all. Poonam ❤️

      1. Jane, you are very sweet. That drawing was for the prompt. I cannot draw to save my life. I had tried to draw a wave and it was complete. My drawing experiment is over. 😀

  3. “moon’s manipulation of strings” – I found these words very beautiful. I loved your poem handwritten in the form of a wave, and also applaud you for sharing your efforts in other art forms. Attempting something is so good for the heart, better than not trying – I often assume I am not good, so don’t try. I do believe and try to be the opposite. Lovely poem about emotions that do feel like waves.

    1. Pragalbha, I am touched by your encouraging words. If I am responding to prompts, I do try to follow the instructions diligently even if the result is not that good. Experimenting with forms keeps the mind agile. Thanks so much. ❤️

  4. Indeed a difficult proposition to create a shape poem that can be easily published on WP… Glad to see you discovered a good “work around”! I like the wave in this one!!

  5. I love your handwritten version! Well done! I almost handwrote mine but cheated and used an old one I’d done. Plus you have the handwriting of a healthy sound mind unlike mine 😀 ❤

    1. I finally went for handwritten one because I couldn’t format a wave! Did I confess I am tech challenged? Lol
My handwriting is anything but good! Sound mind…hehe…I love to give that impression! I just can’t believe you don’t have a good hand! Maybe one day you should share a handwritten one. 😀
      Thanks so much, dear. ❤️
