Days of yore

Globe trotting days

Postcards testimonials

Vignettes of past

captured in eternity

Edges blurred and fading

Unfocused stories

play hide and seek

The knot in the stomach tightens

Was I ever there?

Memories gradually seep in

To fill the gaps

Wistful remembrances

A sigh of relief.

  1. you nailed it perfectly, this could be my reflections on travels long past when the world was a very different place … I laminated those postcards as the writing was beginning to fade πŸ™‚

      1. Gina, my mother-in-law had Alzheimer’s in the last few years before her death. My mom who is ninety has dementia. I can’t tell you how much losing my memory terrifies me. Let’s hope we never face it.

  2. I think many of us are missing travelling β€˜in days of yore!’ I managed to at least do some this year, and I found it so inspiring. But inspiration can come from anywhere, as your poem shows! ❀️

    1. You are lucky, Ingrid, to have been able to travel. ❀️ It sure can be very inspiring. Thankfully most of my inspiration strikes when I am in the kitchen! πŸ˜‚

  3. I had to laugh at this one! I was looking at old photos in the albums and there were some that I couldn’t remember taking or being there… turned out they were ones that my son took when he went on a band trip to Phoenix AZ! So I’ve experienced that head scratching moment…

    1. Haha, Val! It happened with me too! In a photo in an old album (yes, we still have those!) my husband was alone posing in front of a monument we had visited together. And I knew I had not taken that photo! I kept wondering where I was. Only to realise it was taken before our wedding. πŸ˜‚
