Bottled feelings

(From Pexel)

I bottle feelings everyday
dram by dram, drop by drop
disappointment and despair,
resentment and that pain
as well as the blinding rage
they all go in the same bottle

carefully, without the funnel
I pour meticulously;
drip, drip, drip
spill not even a driblet
and get on with the infernal life
with a plastic plastered smile

when the sunless cloudscape presents itself
I sit with myself
the bottle by my side
I swallow a mouthful of asperity laced cocktail
sip by sip, sip by sip
scanning the skies for stars to guide

the inverted questions remain suspended
mocking me with every passing moment
the knot in my stomach gets tighter
weary, tired and angry
I sit there with my empty bottle
waiting for dawn to pick a fight

same old, same old life goes on
with a sigh I get ready to bottle feelings again.

  1. This is really good, ma. So relatable I think to so many. I am in class for the next 10 months for massage therapy training. I would so like to share this poem with my class. 😊🙏🏻💖

  2. This was so sad and the topic a bitter drink. It has a tinge of hopelessness and I am now melancholy. You have uncorked the bottle with such flair that I didn’t realize I’d consumed it until the end of the poem!!! Well done!

    1. Jeff, thank you. Thank you for catching the tenderness with which I wrote this. Thank you for letting me know it resonated. It is not s good place to be but we have all been there some time.
I appreciate you, my friend. ❤️🙏🏼

      1. You’re most welcome, Punam. Always. It is not a good place to be, and, yep, we have all been there. Aww, thank you, my friend, I appreciate you too. ❤️🙏

  3. sis your writing is always palpable but this one more so … I agree with Val’s comment. Read this last night and my heart ached so was hoping for a ‘brighter’ view/response this morning … but so glad if you can chuck that bottle as far away as possible.

Know you always survive but having to bottle so much is not healthy. How about vigorous cleaning, some gardening, a brisk walk, get a punching bag … try anything to channel it in a more positive way before that bottle explodes HUGS 🙂

    1. Kate, most times I write poems but sometimes they write themselves. This one wrote itself. It does not reflect my present mood or condition at all. But there are times one bottles feelings only to let them out at an opportune time.

Always touched by your concern. I am obviously not happy about what happened but I have moved on. Appreciate your hugs so much. 🙂

  4. I have always been someone who warns about brushing things under the carpet. Many of us do that to avoid conflict.
I feel better to thrash it out right now before it becomes an uncontrollable and grotesque monster.
So I say – embrace conflict, because from therein come great inspirations, better understanding, amazing relationships, and a lot of stuff one may never expect from conflicts.

  5. this is stellar Punam, bottled feelings, drops of words, liquid emotions in see through glass and sometimes opaque. I can so relate and feel the weight of your words, gorgeously crafted words.
