Memories

As I stumble again over my tangled shoelaces
wondrous memories light up the canvas of youth
time is fluid and my mind lucid
as I ramble through the lanes of past
a hint of the fragrance of carefree laughter
causes a lump in my throat that refuses to go
the freaky four they called us behind our back
our strangeness, the elephant in the room
nobody had the courage to address
we were unstoppable
no kakorrhaphiophobia, no feeling of insufficiency
my clumsiness never an issue
secure in each others’ quaintness
world warriors we were
then fate spun a whirlwind so intense
scattered across the globe we lie
the magnet of uniqueness keeping us aligned
I wipe my tears with a sigh hoping to see them before I die.

Reena’s Xploration Challenge #196

      1. August has been too hectic what with jumping into the dVerse pool and Val’s challenge. Will take it easy in September.

No lockdown in Delhi right now. We had lockdown in April-May when thousands died. Now the rate of infection here is low, though in some other states it is rising. Still we don’t step out much until it can’t be helped.

      2. good to know you’re all safe!

Numbers are rising rapidly in Sydney but I’m 7.5 hours north … still we are subjected to similar rules. Don’t get their reasoning behind it, so only hope the capital feels support as it’s regional areas suffer with it.

      3. Good to know you are safe too.

We were subjected to complete lockdown last year but it didn’t make sense. The rural areas were completely unaffected and to clamp lockdown and take away their livelihood made no sense. This time it is area and district wise. Wherever there are cases, those areas have lockdowns.

      4. that makes a lot more sense, here they seem to be freaking out and making some very bad decisions … like alcohol outlets are open but charity shops and feeding the homeless closed. Can’t have more than ten at a wedding or funeral yet thousands crowd closely together each weekend for football … and govt is using it as an excuse not to sit, but I bet they’re still being paid!

  2. How beautiful is your poem Punam. You’re a true wordsmith my friend. I have friends scattered all over the globe as well and we stay in touch by messaging and occasional calls. But the bond is strong and un breakable. Thanks for joining in my dear.

  5. Somehow Missed this when it was posted. Had a lump in my throat reading this. I know this is supposed to be a happy poem but nostalgia has that effect. Beautiful poem, so eloquently written. There were some really big words I had to Google and try to pronounce 😜 Killed so many birds with one stone. Not surprised, coz it’s you, a poetess I highly admire. 🙏🤍

    1. Believe me, Sahana, that big word was new for me too! 😂 Had it not been a prompt word, I would not have used it. Well, nostalgia is often bittersweet. Thanks so much, my dear. That is high praise indeed. 🙏🏼❤️😊
