Whose high rise is this I think I know
he resides I think on exotic foreign shores though
he may not take kindly to my illegal humble house here
which the municipality uprooted and callously did throw!
His overseas schooled kids may think it queer
to find my colourful house so near
between the posh location and manicured park
this dark night of this strange year.
I could not but help but feel like a fake
surrounded by ostentation when I did wake
I certainly don’t fit in this milieu
rehabilitating me here was a mistake.
The surroundings are alien, intimidating and not cheap
I have to find a job that I can keep
and miles to trudge before I can think of sleep
and miles to trudge before I can think of sleep.
What do you see # 70- February 22 2021
(With apologies to Robert Frost and anyone who is offended by my verse🙏🏼)
This is fantastic and poignant, Punam!

I recognised him clearly in that last refrain sis! He’s my hero after YOU 🙂
You echoed how I felt when I spotted this prompt, surrounded by ostentation

Very well written story, Punam. This is what is happening in our world today where houses have become like matchboxes.

First I have to say, in some strange way the house and parts of your poem make me think of the Wizard of Oz. 😘 On the the flip side, what a powerful statement of society! 😊 🤗❤️

You’ve captured reality, beautifully in your poem, Ma’am. Loved the concluding lines, I was strangely reminded of the Bollywood movie, “English Medium” while reading your poem. 🙂

Woooooowww just fabulous. Robert Frost ending.
‘The surroundings are alien, intimidating and not cheap I have to find a job that I can keep and miles to trudge before I can think of sleep and miles to trudge before I can think of sleep.’
So true that we have to accommodate according to others keeping our health on stake.
Yesterday I was reading a chapter of a book by Mathew Walker, ‘Why We Sleep’. The ending reminded me of it.
