Truth

Day 14 OctPoWriMo

Prompt: Truth

Form: Cascade

1.

A commodity considered archaic in the present times
relegated to being rarest of rare
truth these days is an experimental drug.

As dazzling artifice and pretence become lucrative
plain truth is no longer regarded feasible
a commodity considered archaic in the present times

Lies need no passport, traversing the world
truth plods on, barefoot and sore
relegated to being rarest of rare

Deception artfully camouflages flaws
honesty almost always gives you a spine
truth these days is an experimental drug.

2.

My beating heart, this moment’s truth
Your beating heart, this moment’s truth
Living in this moment, the only truth.

Words can be deceptive, oft acting as barriers
drowning raucously heart’s sibilant whispers
My beating heart, this moment’s truth

Actions oft spin artificial appearances
camouflaging clamouring heart’s call
Your beating heart, this moment’s truth

When a heart communicates with another
no other truth is required
Living in this moment, the only truth.

(I wrote two poems for today’s prompt. Couldn’t decide which to discard, so posted both)

  1. Oh my, quite the challenging topic, Truth! I wish people had courage to tell the truth–truth should be honored, respected; it should lift us above mediocrity… oh dear, I’ve begun rambling and must “send” before I veer off into “preaching” πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ You are some kinda poet, Punam–I’m ever stunned, never disappointed by how you sew words and phrases together EVERY DAY!!!πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸ’–

  4. “Truth these days is an experimental drug” – I WISH I had come up with that one.

I like the way the truth being a rarity has the opposite effect of what it would normally have, while also having exactly the effect that it should have: it’s immeasurably valuable, but worthless due to how uncommon it is. The lock-out resulting from its nature is expressed wonderfully here, as well as how, in a world of lies, the truth is shunned.

    Excellent, as always πŸ™‚
