Likes but no visits

Whose likes these are I think I know
Their blog is on WordPress for sure
I do not see them stopping by my blog
But like my comments on others’ blogs, though!

My perplexed mind thinks it queer
To read my words from afar and not near
Between a like on a comment and my post
The distance is of just a visit to the reader.

If they like my comments spontaneous
Imagine the joy of visiting my verses ingenious
Which I so painstakingly craft
For sharing happiness is infectious!

I wonder if the shadowy exploration is random or by design
I must admit liking comments on others’ blogs is no crime
But my comment on another blog is just soupcon
Why not visit and read my writing sometime!

My verses are my legacy in words
To insinuate you are missing something is absurd
But your likes remind me you are lurking somewhere
Gives me a feeling of being stalked for better or worse.

(With malice and offence to none, a tongue in cheek rant and apologies to all for this appalling nod to a much beloved poem!)

    1. Lol Sadje! Everyday I receive some likes on comments that I had left on other bloggers’ posts. But what really got my goat was my ‘you are welcome’ were also liked! Excuse me!!! Who does that!!🙄🙄😂😂

      1. Ha! I am probably guilty of “liking” a “you are welcome” or a “my pleasure” comment. It’s just a way of acknowledging that I received the comment and I appreciated (i.e., liked) it. I may have to rethink that. 😏

      2. No, I think you got me wrong! What I meant was when somebody thanks me for a comment on their blog, I usually respond with a “you are welcome” or ” my pleasure”. But this third person who likes my comment about the post (which is okay) also “likes” my response to “thank you”!

        A comment may say what you wanted to say so liking that is fine but what is there to like about you are welcome. And moreover this person never visits my blog ever!

  2. This is a fun way to say WP is messed up lol. I agree, the reader allows people to like without ever reading. It should direct people to our blog to like it.
    Worse WP never allows our posts to come up in google searches and such so how the hell are we supposed to grow and do well! its ridiculous.

    1. WP is messed up, no doubt and I agree with what you say. But for quite some time now, I have been receiving likes on comments I leave on other bloggers’ posts. Nothing wrong with that, I do that too but usually if the comment resonates with me and if I know the blogger whose comment I am liking. These people who like my comments barely ever visit my blog, forget about liking any post!!
      But what got me was liking “my pleasure” and the like!!
      Maybe the rules of engagement have changed.

      1. Seems a bit like on twitter where some people retweet any old rubbish tweet for no good reason. On here people like comments with no meaning to them instead.

        Makes trying to win impossible I think.

        This is so true! I call it ‘fishing’. These ‘likes’ from unknown people on comments I make are meaningless. On the other hand—I really enjoy reading comments and often learn more about the writer—and I do appreciate when I see known people who like my comments on other blogs. Makes it feel more of a community.

      6. I too enjoy reading comments on other people’s blogs. If a comment resonates with me, I like it too. But to only like my comments elsewhere and never even visit my blog…well I refuse to take the bait!!
        I agree, likes from known people on my comments feel good.
        Hehe! Nina, I would have written this had some bloggers not liked (multiple times) my comments on different posts of different bloggers! Lol

  8. Exactly my feelings!! a few days ago I figured it out. I’m new to WordPress so I get excited to see who has viewed or liked my post. It really saddened me that people don’t even bother to go through what they are liking.

    1. Welcome to WordPress. I know most people like the posts that appear on their reader without reading. That happens when one is following hundreds of bloggers. But there are some who follow you but don’t like your posts but like your comments on others’posts! And then there are some who don’t follow you but like your every comment on so many other blogs!! Very exasperating!
      But let me assure you, most of us do read the posts and then like and comment.

  9. also happened to me, there are several that do it … but there are also a lot of BOT followers and likers. I’ve deleted many, some hundreds of times! WP doesn’t have a means to block these annoying pests …

    there are also the very human ones and I have no clue what game they are playing

    1. Kate, we like each other’s comments on other blogs. That is because we know each other and the comment resonates. But unknown/known bloggers liking comments on other blogs and not even bothering to visit mine!! That really got me.

      I wrote this so that someone may have some answer!

      1. ha no idea why they do it but yes I’ve got several that frequently like my comments on several other bloggers … I get so many I’ve even been over to visit and comment on their blog … but they don’t respond to my comments?!?

  10. I get that all the time – someone will like my comments on other blogs but never come to my blogs! It is a little strange but I suppose that’s okay as I never see them comment – even on the other blogs…

  19. How many of the world’s great authors have received feedback from their readers? Isn’t the game of writing to trust and let our writings live on far beyond us? But I understand your question very well. The Internet puts our number of readers before our eyes – well, a good part of them

    1. Well, to be honest I don’t consider myself a great poet. I am using this platform for sharing my love for words. I don’t mind if I don’t get a single like. But if A likes my comments on B’s blog, he/she can surely visit my blog and like a post, which is far better than the comments I write! It feels strange if A likes my multiple comments on various blogs but thinks my blog is not worthy of a visit. Surely my blog deserves a look-see! That is my limited point. Numbers is not my area of interest.
      I do appreciate your views and your zen approach.
      I am greedy for interaction. 😉

      2. and for my part, I confess that I don’t always understand how the visits work in relation to the views. By wordpress, I think that we will give views unless we go “extra” on the site.

      3. Ah! Views and visits are beyond me too! I guess if you read a post in your reader it is a view and if you visit the site then you are counted as a visitor. I could be wrong.

  22. Hope I haven’t been guilty of that!!! I love your poetry. I rarely like other’s comments. My blog receives very little comments so I am a bit green when it come to comment protocol. My likes do come easily however, i figure any encouragement at all is good!!! Anyways keep inspiring and writing!!! Hugs!

    1. You are so right…any encouragement is good! And no, you have never done that! I know not everyone is comfortable leaving/receiving comments and likes are greatly appreciated. This is about those who don’t visit my blog but like me from afar! Lol

  26. You are right. Why not visit and read. But none reads. People seems to be in haste. 😀 And some will just drop the URL in comment with no follow, no likes. And many will like all your posts without knowing what is exactly the post about. I am sorry if I have said more but it feels bad to not be read.
