Sitting on the edge
of a high-rise ledge
dangling my legs

I feel the breeze in my hair
as I watch the stars make their
long journey as they flare

waiting patiently for that exact moment
when the night meets the day for an instant
to exchange that kiss so hesitant

I want to catch the sunlight
as ephemeral as a sprite
bringing so much delight

carefully cradling it in my outstretched palms
wanting to place it your arms
but this is a gift, not alms

thus on your bulletin board it goes
pinned along with love notes
a ray of light that glows

so that when you wake, at whatever time,
it suffuses you with warmth sublime
this sight so truly divine!

  1. While I’ve never lived in a college dorm… I imagine such here… with the person waking unexpectedly to all these ‘kisses’ and messages of hope – perhaps from a beau or just even for success for the year.
Recovering in a hospital room (they always have some kind of board for messages…notes – to peg cards from loved ones.
Also reminds me of the window post it art across from each other in high rise business buildings. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yes, it could be anywhere! I am glad you could imagine it to be a college dorm or hospital room! It’s wonderful where a poem can take us. ๐Ÿ˜Š

More pragmatically, I had just watched a magical sunrise from my high rise apartment a couple of weeks ago. It stayed with me because I am not an early morning person.

      1. I’m not an early riser either. But last year while we had a day at the beach I rose early to take some sunrise photos. Mostly I’ve taken sunsets ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I feel like I am always waiting for that “exact moment” nicely done!!! You pull off rhyming remarkable well. I have a hard time of rhyming and not making my poem sound schmaltzy. You are good at it.
