Desires

“कागा सब तन खाइयो
चुन चुन खाइयो मांस
दो नैना मत खाइयो
मोहे पिया मिला की आस”

(O Raven, you have searched my skeleton, and eaten all my flesh. But please do not touch these eyes as I hope to behold my Beloved.)

The above is a very famous couplet by Baba Farid.

Inspired by this couplet, which I read years ago, is my verse for Tracy’s corvid challenge.

Raven desires ravish her decadent flesh
circling hungrily
homing where the flesh is the weakest
she succumbs willingly
unmindful of the vicious cost
tasting the bittersweet sensation
of being ravaged
her skeletal self becomes
a bedraggled leftover
of longings without fruition
but her dark eyes, soulless windows
remain open, gazing unseeingly
waiting for redemption.
