Civility quietly slinked out of backdoor

when composures slipped

smirk and frown collided

elbowing each other as they

jostled in the cramped space

anger raised his head, eyes blazing

sharp rejoinder couldn’t contain herself

a dormant volcano erupted

simmering tempers could barely be controlled

finally an uneasy calm ensued

eyes refuse to meet other eyes

tongues tied themselves into knots

civility now sits forlornly at the doorstep

waiting for hostilities to surrender the high ground

and for an opportunity for an entente to be declared!
