Miss you

Today we challenge you to write a poem of over-the-top compliments. Pick a person, place, or thing you love, and praise it in the most effusive way you can. Go for broke with metaphors, similes, and more.

Have I told you lately how much I miss you

that in your absence I feel so incomplete!

you are the bristles to my handle
and what a fine toothbrush we make!

you are the iron to my ironing board

as we try to make our life wrinkle-free!

our love is like the kettle which is always on a boil

though you can be such a wet blanket sometimes

together we are like the washing machine

and the dryer working in tandem

you are as precious as my trusty oven

gifted by my generous mom on our tenth anniversary

you better believe I am being gracious

for this is no allusion to your bombastic mom

who thinks you are the best gift

I could have asked from life!

I am sorry, my love, that I digress

you know too well you are the hum of this refrigerator

and life is empty like a tin of cookies in your absence!

  1. But I just want to be your “happily ever after” after your “once upon a time.

Really enjoyed this poem. You do so well with these challenges. I wouldn’t dare try to do it.
The time constraints would hamper and intimidate me.

    1. Thanks a lot, dear Andrew. I am glad you enjoyed it. I was just trying to have some fun.
I am sure if you try it you will do very well, though I agree the time constraint can intimidate some. But it spurs me to write.

  2. lol you choked me up with laughter … not sure many spouses would be enamoured being compared to the daily drudgery of home life ❀
    Skilfully written as usual!

  3. You write all this with such a twinkle in your eye – a twinkle that so very much shows your love for him.

It’s so gorgeous. You fill my cookie jar dear friend, and keep the crinkles in my eyes with the smiles you give me. Love love love β™₯️β™₯️β™₯️

    1. Li, he was right next to me when I wrote this! I don’t know why I wanted to write a silly one…maybe spending too much time in the kitchen during the lockdown! I will surely show this to him. ❀️
