I flip a few folios feverishly from the favourite one
I delve deep into the one full of know-how
I stare and stare at one without a dust cover
hoping it will enlighten me how to face this new adversary
I considered them friends all my life
friends, guides, mentors all
rushing to them as a child would to mother
turning to them for solace
to entertain me when boredom struck
and to advise me when I sought answers to esoteric questions
On rainy evenings they were by my side
on sun-soaked winter afternoons they sat with me
during late night waits they gave me company
My life was guided by them every step of the way
so when life threw a curve ball I rushed to them
but the truth is such a war has never been fought before
there is no handbook as a guide
the rules are being rewritten every day
everything is in a flux
the only constant being the bravehearts
trying to reduce the casualties tirelessly
tomorrow who knows we may be able to prevent it
but today we are at a loss against
the inexorable, invisible, invincible invader
Ah! maybe the escapism they offer
would distract me for a while from morbid thoughts
till the time…
I hope against hope.

Yes, Hope is the only word which will keep us hoping for Hope again.. Your pen takes away my words everytime it moves.. I have to search for them frantically, as my pen desperately wants to comment on these gemstones.. Seriously..!!! You and your words.. β€π₯°π

I hope against hope.
This was deep and so so perfect for these days we are living in, or should I have said the days we are surviving.

Perhaps you are right, we are surviving each day and never have I been more grateful for this life that I had taken for granted. I am so glad you liked this one. We will tide through this one, Andrew, sharing our stories and keeping the hope alive.
Thank you so much.

You hit the nail on the head. I read those posts on “Lessons learnt from COVID19”, and think “It os too early to arrive at conclusions. The best or worst is yet to come.” True that all the missiles and surveillance technology is of no use in fighting this war.

Yes, it is too early to draw any conclusions and no, what we have is not good enough for this war.
Thanks a lot, Reena.
