An unequal fight

The scope of my glorious independence
now confined within four walls
alone and isolated
masked and frightened
I stare into oblivion
reflecting on the hands I shook,
the meetings attended
and the crowded commute
Alone and distant from all now
if only I had kept my distance then!
I now fear for the loved ones
regretting the hugs I shared with them
The question that bothers me most is
“How do we stay focused
when the world around us
is falling apart?”
I can feel the mask of sangfroid slip perilously
into the raging waters of uncertainty
but I will not get mired
in the quagmire self-pity
I will survive and rise
wiser and more determined
Alone I may be in this fight
against an invisible, faceless, wee invader
arising out of nowhere
but maybe, just maybe
having faced the worst
the best will triumph eventually.

  11. I am so glad your post came through. There must be some WP glitching because others have complained the the “likes” button not working. Plus yesterday, I wasn’t able to see this post.

    I feel it’s best to stay calm. This is not the first and will not be the last virus we will encounter. Excellent piece, my friend.

Hey again… :)) Sorry I replied so shortly – I was running out the door, when I saw your comment notifications on my recent poems, and wanted to see what I’d missed of yours – I likely shouldn’t have even looked at my phone then, as I ended up commenting too quickly. What I meant by that, is that you’ve taken a lot of intense emotions that are felt by so many people right now, and funnelled them into a very skillful and controlled tornado of thought.       5. Here is the same. Till 14th complete lock down..but once restrictons are over, i am afraid that Covid 19 will strike again
