Innocence lost

The tango of their eyes was a sight to behold
words faltered as to their lips they reached
a fresh rose everyday on her desk
billet doux exchanged via notebooks
their teenage crush blossomed leisurely
in the corridors and classrooms of their school
it seemed like a fairytale romance
except that it wasn’t
unbridled passion crushed innocence
a flower cried forever that day.

  1. Another Wow-worthy one, Punam–I love the opening lines so much…and then if flows into such sorrow, the final line powerfully dramatic. BRAVO!

  2. I agree with that word, poignant. This is so beautiful. It touches the brain and swirls colors, and blends with that tragic ending to foresee perfection. Beautiful!!
