The skies have opened up suddenly
raindrops are chasing each other unrestrainedly
a cool zephyr redolent with petrichor blows pleasantly
cinereous clouds play catch and trace patterns lazily
a young lanky lad drenched to the skin
lets loose a lambada jig unmindful of his scolding kin
two girls place paper boats delicately in the puddle
a couple of pups take shelter in a doorway and huddle
it’s a beautiful, picturesque evening
but without you, it has no meaning.
Real life is all around us, to be soaked up and observed

So true Ivor. But somehow we tend to focus too much on ourselves.

Oh that SLAP IN THE FACE that is the ending. I’m gonna have to explain to my girlfriend why I have a hand print on my caved-in cheek. It’s not going to be pretty… but this poem absolutely is.

Ouch! My words never intended to do that. Thank you so much for your kind words.

It was a good slap. It resonated with me on a level that warranted a good hand-print on cheek. Reason being: I’ve been there, so that slap? Loved it.

😀 Thank you and you are welcome for the slap, though unintended it was! 😉

I got drawn into this gorgeous rainy scene, but then left speechless by the ending
“it’s a beautiful, picturesque evening
but without you, it has no meaning.”
Sometimes even the most beautiful experiences can feel a little empty without that someone who gives them meaning. I don’t know, but I found this a bit heartbreaking. Maybe because it was unexpected, and there seemed a sadness in those words.
This poem is beautiful ❤️❤️

This one was written when hubby was not here and since he is again away, the same feeling remains. I never meant it to be a sad one but yes, the enjoyment of little joys of life is diminished a bit in the absence of a loved one.
Thank you so much for your generous words, Rachel. I am so glad you are enjoying my rain poems. ❤️❤️

Oh!! Seems he is away a lot…. I really felt that wistfulness for his presence in this, it was as though you were caught up in the beauty of the moment, and then you remembered he wasn’t there and the joy and lightness of that moment suddenly diminished. I hope he is not away too long… hugs to you ❤️❤️

Yes, he is away frequently but hopefully once he is back this time, he will stay back for good. 😊
Hugs gladly accepted. 🤗🤗❤️❤️

Now that you have pointed out I realise I used a lot of adverbs! My earlier poetry was like this – descriptive and rhyming. Thanks Bo.
