Loneliness

Today, Iā€™d like to challenge you to produce a poem that meditates, from a position of tranquility, on an emotion you have felt powerfully.

Loneliness

We have been friends for quite sometime

I don’t remember exactly

when you quietly slipped

your fingers through mine

but Loneliness, it took me

a long time to accept you

when memories hanging from

broken lampshades and upturned stools

threatened to unravel me

you came to my rescue

sitting by my bedside

as I feverishly trembled

at being abandoned

you helped to remove the

cobwebs of relationships,

wiped clean the slate of love

and helped build a fence around my heart

soothing me with soft murmured words

I realise now, with you in my embrace

I don’t need anyone.

  1. profound, nothing affects the one who made friends with loneliness, though I cant believe you felt it powerfully, with so many other friends around.

      1. Indeed, emotions go wasted on the equanimous baba, which is what I aspire to become, after I take all the gyan from you šŸ™

  3. This was lovely. I love the imagery youā€™ve drawn from darkness to light. Sometimes we can be in loneliness and not even realize it, until love comes to restore the heart. Wow, this was an incredible piece. ā˜ŗļø

      1. I found it! šŸ˜† it would show up on WordPress app, but then I couldnā€™t click it. Then I open in internet browser but it still didnā€™t work. Finally after sharing it with myself, I was able to open and reblog it. Wow, what a process.

  4. Reblogged this on Beutiflee and commented:
Got it! šŸ˜† (inside joke). This is an incredible. Iā€™m sure we can all relate. Love can overcome the darkness, if we allow it in. Donā€™t be afraid to love. Please take time to read and checkout this amazing writer.

  5. Wow, this is so beautifully written my friend, and one of the ones that have led me to nickname you ā€˜oh wise oneā€™ in my mind many a time! Accepting emotions can be so difficult, so painful. Yet, when you do, their hold on you becomes less, paradoxically often lessening them. Loved how you personified loneliness and befriended it. Stunning poem. ā¤ļøā¤ļø

    1. I am so humbled by your kind words Rachel. I struggled with writing this one. You are right accepting emotions is difficult, accepting them publicly even more so. Thank you so much for your beautiful words. Much appreciated, my friend. ā¤ļøā¤ļø

      1. Yes, it is brave to do these things publicly, but I think we could learn a lot from you. Besides that, the poem in itself is so beautiful but Sad too. I hope the fence around your heart is not constrictive. šŸŒøā¤ļø

  6. I agree with all the other comments here. Punam, this one is a masterpiece! Your imagery is hauntingly beautiful (ā€œquietly slipped your fingers in mineā€ is my favorite) and takes us from despair to acceptance of this personification. This should be in a book!! šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜
