Today, Iād like to challenge you to produce a poem that meditates, from a position of tranquility, on an emotion you have felt powerfully.
Loneliness
We have been friends for quite sometime
I don’t remember exactly
when you quietly slipped
your fingers through mine
but Loneliness, it took me
a long time to accept you
when memories hanging from
broken lampshades and upturned stools
threatened to unravel me
you came to my rescue
sitting by my bedside
as I feverishly trembled
at being abandoned
you helped to remove the
cobwebs of relationships,
wiped clean the slate of love
and helped build a fence around my heart
soothing me with soft murmured words
I realise now, with you in my embrace
I don’t need anyone.
odd I’ve often been alone but can’t say I know loneliness … sounds like you’ve conquered a demon š

profound, nothing affects the one who made friends with loneliness, though I cant believe you felt it powerfully, with so many other friends around.

This was lovely. I love the imagery youāve drawn from darkness to light. Sometimes we can be in loneliness and not even realize it, until love comes to restore the heart. Wow, this was an incredible piece. āŗļø

Wow, this is so beautifully written my friend, and one of the ones that have led me to nickname you āoh wise oneā in my mind many a time! Accepting emotions can be so difficult, so painful. Yet, when you do, their hold on you becomes less, paradoxically often lessening them. Loved how you personified loneliness and befriended it. Stunning poem. ā¤ļøā¤ļø

I am so humbled by your kind words Rachel. I struggled with writing this one. You are right accepting emotions is difficult, accepting them publicly even more so. Thank you so much for your beautiful words. Much appreciated, my friend. ā¤ļøā¤ļø

Yes, it is brave to do these things publicly, but I think we could learn a lot from you. Besides that, the poem in itself is so beautiful but Sad too. I hope the fence around your heart is not constrictive. šøā¤ļø

I agree with all the other comments here. Punam, this one is a masterpiece! Your imagery is hauntingly beautiful (āquietly slipped your fingers in mineā is my favorite) and takes us from despair to acceptance of this personification. This should be in a book!! ššš
