The central leaflet
of the fern
lay curled tightly
loath to open
its eyes
enjoying the frost’s
cold embrace
and winter’s
prolonged run
petrified at the thought
of the Sun’s scalding
hot prodding rays
forcing it to open up
to herald hope
and then die
just to announce
the spring’s arrival.
Lovely! Can’t wait for spring!

how sad yet that is the cycle of life, buds are teased into opening and then fade with the sun – beautiful sentiments here Punam
