Deviate

I remember so well the day

When we decided to traverse this road together.

We were young and starry-eyed

Just joyous to have each other.

We embarked full of idealism

As well as foolhardy notions

The rose-tinted glasses that we wore

Coloured our naive vision.

The road ahead turned out to be bumpy

Shaking our fragile faith

The harsh realities churning a storm

That we struggled to catch our breath.

Frustrated with insurmountable
roadblocks

He wanted to deviate from the chosen way.

Adamant to fulfill my dream

I refused to listen to what he had to say.

Slowly we drifted so far apart

Each busy doing his/her thing

Although we continue to stay together

We can scarcely be found talking.
