Fake news

This post is in response to the daily word prompt hoax.

There was a time

When an elaborate hoax

Was the ruse

To catch criminals

When media could

See through a hoax

And refuse to publish it

When the public was discerning

And rejected the hoax for the real.

These days

In the age of information glut

A hoax is fake news

And social media addicts

With addled brains

With their minds in a haze

Lap up the false

For the real.

  1. Something I’ve written about worryingly often in recent months.
One of my friends will be running for MP in the next election, and her old Facebook account was filled with so much fake news (or at the very least misleading embellishments) I couldn’t keep up.
