I am truly uncomfortable
Amongst all well dressed people,
I avoid limelight of any kind
I prefer to be on the sidelines
Indistinguishable from the shadows.
I freeze amidst the city people
With their emphasis on wealth.
Am often made to feel like an outsider
When they discuss banal stuff.
You see I am a small town girl
And a misfit according to them.
They pretend I do not exist
And mostly look through me.
I too have a college education
A good paying job
But they treat me like a rube
For I am an iconoclast.
