Song of the Heart

I sing because I know no better

My song usually is an open letter

I sing when you so sweetly beckon

I sing also when heaped with scorn.

I sing when my heart bursts with joy

I sing because I am not coy

I sing when on me sorrows rain

I sing often to forget my pain.

My song is a soulful plaintive cry

My song can also be a battle cry

My song is about you and me

My song is just a piece of me.

When I sing I let you in my heart

When I sing I forget what had torn me apart

When I sing it turns me into steel

When I sing I know how you feel.

Let’s all sing those long forgotten songs

Those full of love and longing songs

That we were once forbidden to sing

Lest someone tells us what to sing.
